Whapi vs. WaAPI

Whapi alternative: how WaAPI compares

The same kind of service with a similar feature set. The difference is the price per number: €26 to €33 a month on Whapi depending on billing, $10 on WaAPI — and it adds up with every number you run.

At a glance

Close on features, apart on price

Whapi has a few message types WaAPI doesn’t — buttons and catalog messages. The rest lines up closely.

Which one fits

Whapi or WaAPI?

When Whapi is the better choice

  • A free sandbox without a time limit is enough while you develop.
  • You need buttons or catalog messages.

When WaAPI fits better

  • You run several numbers and the price per number adds up.
  • You want a hosted MCP server rather than one you run locally.
  • You prefer send protection on the server to pacing by hand.

While you build

Sandbox, trial and the MCP server

A sandbox that never expires

Whapi’s free sandbox has no end date but small ceilings: five active conversations a month, 150 messages a day and 1,000 requests a month. Enough to wire up a prototype; a staging system that replays real traffic will hit it.

A trial on the real thing

WaAPI has no permanent free tier. The trial runs on your own number with the production API, so what works in the trial is what you will ship — then it is $10 a month for that number.

AI agents: local or hosted

Whapi’s MCP server runs on your own machine. WaAPI hosts its MCP server with 139 tools, so an agent in Claude or Cursor connects with a URL and a sign-in — nothing to install or keep running.

How the MCP server works

Switching

Moving from Whapi

  1. 1. Log the session out on Whapi. The account behind your number stays the same; only the linked session moves. Then open a new WaAPI instance and pair it — QR code or pairing code, whichever Whapi taught your team.
  2. 2. Re-point the event receiver. Your endpoint becomes the instance’s webhook URL. Map the event names and payload fields your handler reads to WaAPI’s once, in one place.
  3. 3. Drop buttons and catalog cards. Rewrite them as text with numbered options or links; everything else maps to an equivalent call.
curl --request POST \
  --url https://waapi.app/api/v1/instances/123/client/action/send-message \
  --header 'authorization: Bearer your-api-token' \
  --header 'content-type: application/json' \
  --data '{
    "chatId": "[email protected]",
    "message": "Your parcel is waiting at the pickup point until Saturday."
}'
<?php

$instanceId = 123;
$apiToken = 'your-api-token';

$ch = curl_init("https://waapi.app/api/v1/instances/{$instanceId}/client/action/send-message");
curl_setopt_array($ch, [
    CURLOPT_POST => true,
    CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER => true,
    CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER => [
        'authorization: Bearer ' . $apiToken,
        'content-type: application/json',
    ],
    CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS => json_encode([
        'chatId' => '[email protected]',

]);

        "chatId": "[email protected]",
        "message": "Your parcel is waiting at the pickup point until Saturday.",
    },
)

print(response.json())
const instanceId = 123;
const apiToken = 'your-api-token';

fetch(`https://waapi.app/api/v1/instances/${instanceId}/client/action/send-message`, {
  method: 'POST',
  headers: {
    authorization: `Bearer ${apiToken}`,
    'content-type': 'application/json',
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    "chatId": "[email protected]",
    "message": "Your parcel is waiting at the pickup point until Saturday.",
  }),
})
  .then((res) => res.json())
  .then(console.log);

Limits

Limits and sending safely

There is no cap on how many messages you send. What gets numbers restricted is contacting many people who never wrote to you — so send protection is on by default for every new number.

1–2 s
pause between two messages, per number
20
new conversations per hour, per number
60
new conversations per day, per number

What counts as a new conversation: a person who has never written to your number and whom you have not messaged in the last 7 days. Replies to people who wrote to you first and messages to groups and channels never count, and a follow-up within those 7 days doesn’t count twice.

Need more? Spread new contacts across several numbers, or switch send protection off for a number after confirming the warning — at your own risk.
